Matt's High-Five Fridays!

Well folks, it's been a while since I've done one of these, but don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you. Here's my high-five of the week(s)!

1. Broken Kites

Being a native to Scranton, it is no surprise that like most of the city I am a big kite enthusiast. I'm even co-chair of "kite flyers unanimous" (meetings are Sunday at 6 at McDade park). So, you can just imagine the kind of ecstasy that overcome me when I found this poor, defenseless, high-tech bat kite at Nay Aug last weekend. I was as giddy as I had been back in my elementary school days when I was given a Pizza Lunchable for my lunch, and boy do I love Pizza Lunchables (two cheese being the most superior, of course). Well, after happening upon the broken kite, I still flew it! There wasn't much wind though, so I needed to generate some myself by running. You should have seen it fly, though. It was so majestic.

2. Spinto Band's "Moonwink"

Wow. That is the only word I could muster after listening to the Spinto Band's latest album "Moonwink." The album is fantastic, with every song having the poppy melodies you'd expect from those boys from Wilmington. One of the single's, "Summer Grof," is going to be my song of choice this summer to be playing in the car with the window's down and the wind blowing my hair. The album really shows evolution in the band's style and energy coming off their last album, "Nice and Nicely Done" (as you might remember, "Nice and Nicely Done" was one of my first high-fives! I just can't get enough of the Spinto Band). On a lesser note, the gents were up here a few weekends ago performing at Bar Bleu with Scranton's own "And the Moneynotes." Unfortunately, it was 21+, so I couldn't attend as I recently lost my Canadian fake ID (is he joking?). Listen up kids, if you want a perfect summer-time album that is sure to make all of your wildest dreams come true, purchase "Moonwink." I'm almost positive that is the best step you can take in that direction.

3) 19 Year Old on the "Price is Right" Wins Huge!

Watching the "Price is Right" has been a past-time since I was a youngin'. I used to get up early in the summer, sit with my Grandma, and watch Bob Barker in all his majesty. Boy was that man suave. Now, ever since Drew Carry has taken over the show, I haven't been watching it as much. Nothing against Mr. Carry, but he just doesn't have the same matter-of-factness about him that Bob did. Well, I stumbled upon a video yesterday of this 19 year old whippersnapper winning huge on the PiR (as true fans call it). The kid couldn't miss! He ended up winning two cars, 25,000 on the wheel, and a scooter. Watching this made me realize one thing. I should have went to the "Price is Right" when I turned 18. I would have basically been guaranteed a free car, right?

4) Magic: The Gathering

That's right. Very few people know that I was a big Magic: The Gathering buff back in my high-school days. I played almost every day with a few of my buddies, and was a frequent of "The Unknown" on Adams Ave. Finals are right around the corner, so bringing with them is any excuse my roommates and I can use to procrastinate. Bringing back MTG (again, this is what true fans call it) just seemed like the perfect idea. And guess what? It was! We've been playing every day since. The game is just as fun as it was, and if you didn't know, it was a lot of fun! I very rarely use my Elf Deck, though. Not to toot my own horn, but it's pretty dominant. If anyone wants a piece, just let me know. I'll throw down anywhere, anytime (as long as it is at the place that I determine at the time I determine)!

5) Spicy Nacho Cheese Doritos

As you all know from my previous High-Fives, I am a sandwich connoisseur. I've already taught you the recipe to one of the greatest sandwiches known to man (or woman). And you may recall that on that sandwich, it requires chips, but I had said I preferred Nacho Cheese Doritos. Well, Nacho Cheese may be in a run for its money, because I recently came across Spicy Nacho Cheese! That's right, all the flavor and goodness that you love from Nacho Cheese, but with a little kick! Brilliant. I've been using these chips for a good two weeks now, and let me say, they're delicious every time. Now, I'm not saying that I am done with the good old original Nacho Cheese just yet, but it is certainly possible. Nacho Cheese, you've been warned. Spicy Nacho Cheese is riding your coattails!

That's it for my High-Five, folks! Hope you had a good week.

xoxo,
Matt
