Well, it's Friday, time for my high-five! I missed the past two weeks because of Spring Break and vacationing, so this is going to be my high-five from the past three weeks!
1) Clear Water
I was fortunate enough to be able to go on a cruise with my family over Spring Break down to the Bahamas. It was a fantastic trip, filled with 86 degree weather, ritzy food, tanlines, out-of-shape people in hot tubs, duty-free shopping, gambling, and inside jokes (good morning!). However, one of the best parts about the whole trip is how spectacular the water is! I mean, you can look into the shallow ocean and see sand; it's fantastic. This is especially true given that the New York harbor's water is a greenish-yellow tint. I mean, don't get me wrong, I understand St. Patrick's day was coming up, and they were most likely just dying the harbor's water in lieu of that, but still I'd take clear water over the shamrock bay any day.
2) Spring Weather
After making my triumphant return to State College, something incredible happened. I didn't have to dress for the Arctic Tundra to go outside. It was actually warm! I just had to grab one of my rag-tag hoodies (and yes, I've wanted to use the word rag-tag for a while) and go outside. You see all sorts of wonderful sights. People walking dogs, girls sunbathing (it's called Happy Valley for a reason, you know), kids throwing the old frisbee on the HUB lawn (seen above), and kids with acoustic guitars sitting under trees. It's finally starting to feel like spring. It's the kind of weather that makes people want to skip and do cartwheels! If only I could do a cartwheel..
3) John McClane
My god, is this man something else! For those of you who don't know, John McClane is the main character of the Die Hard series. Played by Bruce Willis, McClane is a New York City Cop (or Los Angeles Cop in Die Hard 2: Die Harder) who is always at the right (or wrong, in his perspective) place at the right time. This no-nonsense, straight-shootin', back-talkin', badguy-killin', snowmobile-drivin', helicopter-flyin', son-of-a-gun certainly drinks his coffee black. Our apartment actually watched Die Hard 1 through Die Hard 4 in a span of four days. What's better than four days of Die Hard? Trick question; nothing. And you might ask yourself, "But Matt, you said in your one high-five Friday that you needed Samuel L. Jackson to make a week complete." And that's very true! Good thing he co-stars with Willis in the third installment, Die Hard with a Vengeance.
4) Lunch Meat
It's a little known fact about me that I am a sandwich fiend. I mean, whoever came up with the idea of putting different meats and cheeses in between slices of bread really is pure genius. A little bit of a back story to this high-five. About two weeks before spring break, I ran out of all the lunch meat that I brought up to college. Now, this left me with quite the predicament. I found myself ordering out far more than I should have, which really caused a strain on my pocket (and health). Now, a very beautiful fact about coming back to school is all the food I bring back with me. And I brought back pounds upon pounds of lunch meat! I'm the sandwich king, now.
Matt's Classic Turkey and Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients:
2 Slices of Bread
Healthy Choice Turkey
Mozzarella Cheese
Mustard
Potato Chips
Take two slabs (eyeball it) of healthy choice turkey and two slices of mozzarella cheese and tower it on one slice of bread. Cover the bread with a healthy bed of mustard. On top of the mustard, load the sandwich with mounds of your favorite potato chips (I prefer Nacho Cheese Doritos.
5) Reunions

Today is a really great day. It's Friday, the sun is shining, and today is the day the cronies (Dan, Matt, and Chet) come to Penn State for our show tomorrow. It's going to be so nice to see them! We get along so well even off the stage; it's really what gives us such good chemistry on the stage. Tonight is going to be full of fist-pumping and bro-hugs, that's for sure. They're some of my best friends, and I can't wait to see them!
That's it for this week. I hope you all had fantastic weeks, too! Keep your feet on the ground and your heads in the clouds.
xoxo,
Matt
